The CUE Assessment System

Online demonstrations:

- Try a test.
*Note* This is a demo illustrating features of the older CUE system (prior to Pass-IT). You can try out the current system.

The CUE assessment system is the latest version of the testing mechanism which has its origins in 1985.

CUE provides a versatile test engine capable of running assessments on PC and over the web for a variety of subjects.

CUE is delivering the formal testing for the SCHOLAR Project. Heriot-Watt's SCHOLAR Project is supplying as part of its distance learning provision a range of Higher, Advanced Higher and A-Level courses.

SCROLLA (The Scottish Centre for Research into On-Line Learning and Assessment) is also using CUE in their research work. As part of its objectives, SCROLLA, in the near future, will make CUE freely available to any Scottish institution who is interested in furthering the development and research into On-Line Assessment

CUE developed through a collaboration with our clients and partners who include a leading UK Examination Board and a successful Scottish software house. The assessment system has provided tests for a number of projects and in a variety of situations with questions ranging from Accountancy and Management to Biology and Physics.

The features of CUE include:
  1. a powerful yet easy to use editor for creating and modifying questions;
  2. a PC and web interface for checking questions and delivering tests;
  3. a test editor to put assessments together in a variety of modes;
  4. modes of delivery which range from the ability to reveal answers in Help Mode to Examination Mode where the marking takes place behind the screens;
  5. a variety of part types from multiple response, hotspots, full mathematical expression checking, word and phrase matching and essay submission;
  6. use of random parameters to give students plenty of practice;
  7. design of steps to provide students with a route to the answer --- this follows a full educational evaluation of earlier testing systems;
  8. inclusion of partial credit achieved in a variety of ways;
  9. flexible delivery of hints and advice;
  10. incremental gathering of results data to enable extensive report generation; and
  11. a results and reporting service designed to run over the web or on PC.

We are currently upgrading the assessment system. We hope to have the system available again as soon as possible.
